My story

🎗️ MY OCTOBER PROSTATE CANCER CHALLENGE 🎗️

This October, I’m taking on a huge personal challenge to raise £500 for prostate cancer and, more importantly, to raise awareness of a disease that has affected my family deeply.

Every day throughout October, I will wheel myself around the block in my wheelchair, pushing myself physically and mentally with the hope of raising as much money and awareness as possible.

This challenge is especially close to my heart because my grandad, Thomas Ash (Gramps), died from prostate cancer, as did my wife Mel’s grandad, David Flin (Grandad).

I will be completing this challenge in memory of Thomas and David. ❤️

For me, this is going to be a huge challenge.

I’m a wheelchair user living with Cauda Equina syndrome, and I also have acute coronary syndrome. I’m also someone who doesn’t leave the house very often. It can take a lot of persuasion for me to get out, and simply getting around outdoors can be difficult.

Pavement obstacles, uneven surfaces, dropped kerbs and other things that many people probably wouldn’t even think twice about can make getting around in a wheelchair challenging. Add my cardiac issues into the equation, and this isn’t simply a case of going for a little roll around the block.

But I’m determined.

I want to push myself out of my comfort zone, challenge myself every single day throughout October and do something positive in memory of two men who were loved by our families.

I also want to use this challenge to raise awareness of prostate cancer and encourage men to take their health seriously.

Please don’t ignore changes or concerns about your health. Speak to your GP about prostate cancer, your symptoms and your individual risk, and ask whether you should be tested.

If this challenge encourages even one man to get checked, then every push of those wheels will be worth it.

🎗️ £500 is the target. Awareness is the bigger goal.

Please donate if you can, share this post, follow my journey throughout October and help me remember Thomas Ash and David Flin in the best way I can.

❤️ In memory of Gramps & Grandad
