My story

For a long time, cancer felt like something that happened to people I didn’t know, something I would hear about on the TV or in the news, but never really think would affect people around me.

That changed when my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, and later when the mother of an old friend was diagnosed with skin cancer. It was a wake up call for me and made me realise just how real and widespread cancer is, and how many families are affected by it.

More recently, hearing about Jeremy Clarkson’s experience with prostate cancer also made me think more seriously about the importance of awareness and getting checked. Hearing him talk about his experience and encourage people to get tested made me realise how important early detection can be.

That’s why this October I’m taking on Prostate United, running 10 km every single day to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research.

I’m 17 and currently in Upper Sixth at Anglo European School, studying A level Computer Science, Maths and Physics alongside IB Economics. The challenge is going to be particularly difficult because it takes place during my mock exams, when I’ll also need to balance revision and schoolwork. But I wanted to set myself a challenge that would push me both physically and mentally.

There’s also a personal reason why I chose to run 10 km every day. Over the past year and a half, I’ve gone from around 100 kg to 68 kg, starting that journey when I began Lower Sixth. Running 10 km every day is another way for me to challenge myself and see how far I can push my fitness and determination.

I’ll do my absolute best to complete the 10 km every day throughout October, even with my exams and schoolwork going on.

I’m also going to try to post updates on my progress as often as I can, ideally every day, across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. I want to share the good days, the difficult days and hopefully the journey of completing the full challenge.

Prostate cancer affects thousands of men and their families. By taking part in Prostate United, I hope I can help raise money for research into better tests and treatments, so that more men can get the support they need and more families get more time together.

If you’re able to sponsor me, no matter how much, I’d really appreciate it. Every donation can help support prostate cancer research and make a difference to men and their families.

Thank you for supporting me and helping me take on this challenge.
